Sorry to all you who read this who think all I do is complain about band. If you don't want to hear it, close this now. This time, like all others, I have just cause.
From the beginning:
Last year I was involved in solo and ensemble. I was to take a solo, Group I, and was in two ensembles. The ensembles went smoothly, except once pratice was cancelled without me being notified. (Surprised? Let me continue.) About a month or two before competition, I was informed by Karl, who told me I was signed up for my solo, that I actually wasn't signed up for it after all. All those private lessons (which aren't cheap, I might add) were wasted. Over $300 in them. I was told I could take the solo the following (this) year.
A short time after the competition, Karl decided to start skipping lessons. I came ever week, and 4 out of 5 times, Karl was no where to be found. He'd never call, he'd never write a note. Being a freshman at the time, it wasn't easy getting a ride. Either my mom would have to change her schedule to take me and pick me up, or I would wait for extended periods of time after bonus period, just to see that he was a no show.
Now comes this year. I figure with another year of experience under his belt, Karl would be more organized. Apparently not. I have heard nothing of my solo. Yes, that $300 is now wasted. I figured I'd just give up on it, so I decided to sign up for a quartet. The quartet I signed up for was the same one I was in last year. Last year, Karl said we'd have the same group and all, so when the time came I signed up. Me and the others. Today, the list was printed. My name was signed in time...I had to be on the list. Guess what? He dropped me. For Sam and Matt. What the hell is this? Is it a pure form of hatred? Maybe it was purely overlooked, while two of the other names weren't. Whatever it is, I'm obviously not wanted to participate. I wasn't called about why I was dropped, no note was written, no message was left. Omitted. Was it because I am not taking lessons? 1. Two of the quartet members last year weren't in lessons and we did just fine and they were allowed to participate. 2. The ensemble sheet mentions nothing about having to take lessons for an ensemble, just a solo (and at that, remember the over $300 I wasted last year?)
Since solo and ensemble is hosted at Avon this year, I would think that we would be encouraged to participate in it. Even if this is all a misunderstanding, which I sure hope it is (but don't you doubt it?), why does it have to be a pain in the ass for me to sign up to pay them $10 for a solo and $5 for an ensemble? Please tell me I'm not the only one who's been ditched numerous times.
On a lighter note, finals are tomorrow. Just great. This week rocks. :(
